EU-funded game with an indie attitude

A successful game has to be a combination of many different elements. First, the idea and the story of the game must be created. In the design phase, the game mechanics, user interface, levels, and characters are chosen. The next step is to work on the visuals, the soundscape, and the code that runs in the background. Everything has to work together seamlessly.

This process requires the collaboration of many different professionals. Although the game industry is relatively young, it has developed its own working culture.

Antti Orasvuo, who is responsible for the cybersecurity game, sees the game as a result of indie game development.

– Because the game isn’t about making a profit, it’s about putting the game first and foremost. Although this is an EU-funded educational game developed in collaboration with a known game studio, it has been very much an indie approach.

– For us, Zaibatsu game studio has proved to be an excellent partner, as already their initial suggestion for the game showed how well they had understood the goals of our game. Above all else, this is about doing work that you love, Orasvuo says with a laugh.

Our efforts are now focused on completing the first version of the game and the soft launch. After that, the game will be finalised for the big launch at the end of the year.

The success of the game is largely determined by how the gaming experience is for the person who has downloaded the game. That’s when you measure the quality of how well all the people involved have worked together. This is the most thrilling moment for the game maker, Orasvuo summarises.
